Wow… we can’t possibly thank all of you who showed up properly! Things went so much better than we hoped for. here’s a brief interview type compilation of info that people who couldn’t make it were interested in :
Did it really do that well?
—- YES!!! We are solidly in place for quite some time. our only anticipated move would be with the Standard to a larger space. We can’t voice our appreciation enough for giving us this wonderful opportunity.

How did this open format / request system work out?
—- there’s no specific rules, but our system works… you’ll have to show up to see it in action. it gets everyone in the place involved. we had far more requests than we could have hoped for! we even had a miniSD request and a sony MiniDisk request! our wi-fi was spotty, so streaming wasn’t an option… it should be next week.
wi-fi? do you anticipate any web broadcasts for those of us not in the US / Los Angeles area?
—-So far, a large (but to remain unnamed at this timee) online and indie radio station wants to braodcast us live on a bunch of indie radio stations all at once as well as provide a stream for us. We are currently preparing our proposal to the Standard to see if this could work with their corporate structure. This is also highly dependent on our acquiring good bandwidth in the lounge comparable with that availabe already in the poolside area, lobby, and cafe of the Standard. A simple repeater should remedy this.

how many people and who showed up?
—-it looked really good, but we didn’t have a door person, so we don’t know the exact numbers. the hotel management was SUPER happy with us and the turnout, and we didnt’ even tell them we were only able to flier for 2 days! There were "celebrity clientele" so we had to limit our pix of the night to people we personally knew… we’ve been sternly warned by the Standard to keep it that way unless told otherwise. we’re not even at liberty to "name drop" and we’ve got too much class to ask for autographs
looking forward with the awards next week, the hotel is gonna be booked SOLID with A-lists… we gotta respect them as professionals if we want to be taken seriously.
WOW!!! is the venue REALLY that swank?
—-YES. Nearly everyone there could say it was the nicest club they had been to, and that it fully surpassed their expectations. Lighting is very nice and attractive, the staff is super nice, the furniture super cozy, a secluded smoking patio WITH HEAT that you can drink on
, GREAT FOOD, the "perfect martini", awesome liquor selection, and flawless sound in the lounge with no "dead spots" or awkward sound variations… oh yeah, the model in the fishtank in the lobby, the one on her laptop, writing in her diary, or on her cell phone, in a bikini… she’s a nice touch! You could even take a breather poolside and enjoy the gorgeous view of L.A. at night. We are sure this is an experience that is unrivaled anywhere else you’ve been. You have to show up to truly understand just how perfect this place is; you won’t want to leave!
What kind of music did you play? Were you REALLY that open minded?
—-it’s a true democracy. we try to play like requests together for a couple of songs, then switch it up. it was soooo fun… our profile will soon include the names of artists we played, and we’ll add to it each week. pretty much everyone had something to dance to… even the bartenders were "hootin and hollerin"… nothing is a "forbidden request", and if we can we will play it.

how did you hook up the patrons’ players / music?
—-We had an available card reader for most media cards, a iBook with a super drive (for DVDs/MP3 burnt to CD), two turntables, two pioneer DJ CD players, and we plugged into patrons’ iPods / MP3 players via their headphone jack. All they had to do was cue up the song and pause it… when the time came, we just hit play on their "pod" and kicked out their jam. As a matter of fact, Sam and Dan DJed primarily from their own iPods, and DJ Hydrogen primarily used his laptop and Traktor DJ Studio Software.
how much music did you show up with?
—-over 600 "normal" CDs, and over 250 GB of MP3s, collectively.

Did you have every request?
—-almost. unfortunately, the requests we could not do, we will try to download on our personal time this week. we had hoped to use the Standard’s wi-fi connection to download any music we didn’t have, but, alas, the signal did not connect properly in the lounge. This should be fixed next week.

Will you play my request?
—-OF COURSE! especially if you show up with it, we can play it.

Again…. Thank you sooo much for a wonderful first night of Democracy!!!!
